Streak-Free Bathroom Mirror Cleaner With Cornstarch

Cuts Hairspray Film

Hairspray fog, toothpaste specks and greasy fingerprints on the bathroom mirror? Stir 1 tablespoon cornstarch into a little warm water until smooth, then add it to the rest of 2 cups warm water and 1/4 cup white vinegar in a spray bottle. Shake, spray, wipe firm with a cotton cloth, let it haze 20 seconds and buff. Not for antique mirrors.

Cornstarch Cut for Greasy Mirrors recipe card: 1 tbsp cornstarch, 2 cups warm water, 1/4 cup white vinegar
What it fixesForehead grease, hairspray fog, toothpaste specks and oily fingerprints on bathroom mirrors.

You need

Mix it

  1. Make a slurry first. Put the cornstarch in a cup with about 2 tablespoons of the warm water and stir until there are zero lumps.
  2. Pour the slurry into the bottle, add the rest of the warm water and the vinegar.
  3. Shake before every single use. The cornstarch settles out within a few minutes, that is normal and it is supposed to.

Use it

  1. Shake hard, then spray the mirror until it is evenly damp.
  2. Wipe with the cotton cloth using firm pressure. You are lightly polishing here, not just wiping.
  3. Let it haze for about 20 seconds, then buff the haze off with a dry section of the cloth.
Dale's noteCornstarch is a super fine polishing agent and an oil absorber at the same time, which is why this beats alcohol sprays on heavy grease. It is also the fix for a mirror that has been cleaned with paper towels for years and has a permanent looking film.
Don'tDo not use this on the silvered back edges of an old mirror or on antique mirrors with exposed backing. Liquid wicking behind the glass eats the silver and leaves black spots you cannot fix.
