How to Remove Sticker Residue, Tape and Tree Sap From Glass
Oil and Baking Soda
Stir 2 tablespoons vegetable or canola oil and 1 tablespoon baking soda into a loose paste and cover the sticker gunk, tape adhesive, sap or dried bugs. Wait 10 minutes, then push it off with a plastic card at a low angle so it rolls up. Wipe off the paste, go over it with a rag soaked in 70% rubbing alcohol, then a streak-free glass cleaner. Warm the oil 15 seconds first and it works about twice as fast. No metal razor on tempered glass.
You need
- 2 tablespoons vegetable or canola oil
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
- Plastic putty knife or an old plastic gift card
- 1/4 cup 70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol in a small cup
- 2 rags
Mix it
- Stir the oil and baking soda together in a small bowl into a loose paste, about the texture of pancake batter.
- Keep the alcohol separate in its own cup. It is your chaser, not part of the paste.
Use it
- Smear the paste over the sap or adhesive so it is completely covered. Let it sit 10 minutes.
- Push at the edge of the gunk with the plastic card at a low angle. It should roll up rather than smear.
- Wipe the oily paste off with the first rag.
- Now go over the whole area with an alcohol soaked rag to strip the oil film, then finish with a streak-free glass cleaner (the Ghost Spray in the Mix Book) so you do not leave a greasy halo.
