Streaky Stainless Fridge? Wipe With the Grain
Vinegar and Dish Soap Polish
Look close and you'll see faint lines in the steel; every wipe follows them. Mix 1 cup warm water, 1/4 cup white vinegar and 1 teaspoon dish soap in a spray bottle, swirled, not shaken. Spray the cloth, not the appliance, so nothing runs into the seams or controls. Wipe in long straight passes with the grain, then buff dry right away with a second cloth. Do the handles last. Wash the cloths without softener. Never bleach on stainless.
You need
- 1 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon dish soap
- 16 oz spray bottle
- 2 microfiber cloths, one for washing and one dry for buffing
Mix it
- Pour the warm water into the spray bottle.
- Add the white vinegar.
- Add the dish soap last and swirl the bottle gently. Do not shake it or you will foam the whole thing and get bubbles on the panel instead of liquid.
Use it
- Find the grain. Look closely at the panel and you will see faint lines running either side to side or up and down. Every wipe from here follows those lines.
- Spray the cloth, not the appliance. Spraying the appliance sends liquid into seams, handles and control panels.
- Wipe in long straight passes with the grain, top to bottom or left to right, overlapping each pass slightly.
- Flip to the dry microfiber immediately while the panel is still damp and buff the same direction until it squeaks.
- Do handles last. They hold the most grease and will re-smear the panel if you do them first.
