Why Your Mirrors Streak
And the Distilled Water Glass Cleaner That Fixes It
The white haze you blame on your cloth is minerals from tap water. Pour 1 cup 70% rubbing alcohol into a 16 oz spray bottle, then 1 cup distilled water, 1 tablespoon white vinegar and one single drop of dish soap. Rock it gently, don't shake. Mist lightly, wipe top to bottom in an S pattern with one microfiber and buff right behind it with a dry one. Crack a window and keep it away from candles, pilot lights and heaters.
You need
- 1 cup 70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol
- 1 cup distilled water
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar
- 1 drop liquid dish soap, one drop, not a squirt
- 16 oz spray bottle
- 2 clean microfiber cloths
Mix it
- Pour the alcohol into the spray bottle first, then the distilled water.
- Add the vinegar and the single drop of dish soap.
- Cap it and rock it back and forth gently. Do not shake it hard or you will foam it up and be waiting ten minutes for the bubbles to settle.
Use it
- Mist the glass lightly, about four pulls of the trigger for a standard window pane. Wet, not dripping.
- Wipe with the first microfiber in a top to bottom S pattern, overlapping each pass by an inch.
- Immediately follow with the second dry microfiber, buffing in small circles. The alcohol flashes off in seconds, so working fast is what kills the streaks.
