Stop a Bathroom Mirror From Fogging Up

2-Ingredient Anti-Fog Wipe

Bathroom mirror fogs over the second the shower starts? Swirl 1 teaspoon glycerin into 1/4 cup 70% rubbing alcohol, wipe about a teaspoon over a clean mirror, wait a minute and buff hard. Shower steam spreads into a clear sheet instead of fog, for two to three weeks at a time. Not for eyeglasses, goggles or a car windshield.

Anti-Fog Film for Mirrors recipe card: 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol (70%), 1 tsp glycerin (skin care aisle), 2 microfiber cloths
What it fixesBathroom mirrors that fog over completely the second you turn the shower on.

You need

Mix it

  1. Combine the alcohol and glycerin in the jar and swirl until the glycerin is fully dissolved and no clear beads are sitting on the bottom.
  2. That is it. It stays mixed and it keeps for months.

Use it

  1. Clean the mirror first with a streak-free glass cleaner (the Ghost Spray in the Mix Book) and let it dry fully. This coating locks in whatever is already on the glass, so start clean.
  2. Put about a teaspoon of the mix on a microfiber and wipe it across the whole mirror in overlapping strokes.
  3. Wait one minute, then buff hard with the dry cloth until the mirror looks clear at every angle.
  4. Reapply every two to three weeks, or whenever the fog starts creeping back at the edges.
Dale's noteGlycerin works by breaking the surface tension of the condensation, so water spreads into an invisible sheet instead of forming the tiny droplets that scatter light. Plain white shaving foam buffed out does the same thing for about two days, this lasts weeks.
Don'tDo not put this on eyeglasses, swim goggles or a car windshield. On a windshield it smears into a greasy glare that is genuinely dangerous at night against oncoming headlights.
